The Day of The Dead is a tradition that originated back in the Aztec civilization. In Spanish it is known as “Dia de los Muertos.” The tradition is meant to honor fallen souls and is celebrated Nov. 2. Sigma Lambda Beta had two alters, one to represent their fallen fraternity brothers and the other for the general public to honor their loved ones. The altars are typically meant to symbolize a fallen soul ascending multiple levels to heaven.
Sigma Lambda Beta began the event by giving a presentation about the history of the holiday to bring multicultual awareness and then gave members of the audience the opportunity to come up and talk about their loved ones who have passed away.
There was also face painting held at the held at the event which is meant to scare spirits away with the typical skull face painting.
